True. Without diseases and such to kill off people early, the population may get too big.

There are people who are immune to HIV.
They are missing a protein in their white blood cells. This prevents the virus from recognizing the cell and thus keeping the person safe from it. It is a genetic defect that became more prevalent due to the bubonic plague in the Middle Ages. Therefore in the areas where the plague devastated in the past there are more HIV resistant people.
